NEVILLE CLARK
Neville Clarke, a visionary artist whose roots trace back to Kingston, Jamaica, embarked on a transformative journey to Canada in the year 1974. An individual marked by his dedication to the craft, Neville's commitment to excellence was evident in his tenure at the prestigious Ontario College of Art and Design. A highlight of his academic pursuit was his participation in OCAD’s esteemed program in Florence, Italy, from 1983 to 1984.
A recipient of much acclaim, Clarke's oeuvre has been the centerpiece of a myriad of solo exhibitions, including the significant "Towards a Meaningful Expression," hosted in tandem by the Art Gallery of Peel, Brampton, and the Thames Art Gallery, Chatham. Another noteworthy exhibit, "Threshold," was spearheaded by the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, alongside the MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie, and the Frederick Horseman Varley Art Gallery of Markham.
Clarke's ensemble has been an integral part of several group showcases as well, spanning prestigious venues such as the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinburg, Art Gallery of Mississauga, A-Space Gallery in Toronto, the Triangle Gallery in Calgary, and rounding out at the Nova Scotia Archives in Halifax.
JOHN JOY (1925 -2012)
John Joy, born in 1925, stood out as one of the rare contemporary artists wholeheartedly committed to plein air painting across the Canadian vista. In an era captivated by photography, Joy put aside the lens, seeking an unfiltered rapport with his surroundings. TOM MATHEWS (1925 - 2000)
Tom Mathews, whose formative years unfolded amidst the cultural richness of Montreal where he was born in 1920, found a new home in the heartlands of Peel County during the vibrant mid-20th century. Brampton, Ontario became his canvas of life. His artistic journey took flight between 1936 and 1939, nestling in the nurturing arms of the esteemed Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts right in the city that cradled his creativity – Montreal.
Tom Mathews was known for his rich and vibrant works, that embraced a style that highlighted the rustic beauty of old houses, often with intricate details. His works frequently depicted landscapes during snow, with a keen focus on the play of light and shadow. He explored a whimsical and dreamy approach to orchard scenes, portraying them with a touch of fantasy.
CAROL ANN SHELTON
Carol Ann Shelton is a Canadian artist who was born in 1961. Shelton’s bold use of color is more than a mere visual feast; it is a dance of light and shade that invites viewers to explore their own emotional landscapes. The deliberate tilting of angles in her compositions isn’t just a stylistic choice—it's a perspective shift, nudging observers to look at the world through a prism of wonder.
